Case 5 - Class 2 (2): Mild crowding, deep bite. Fixed Appliance Plan: Non-extraction or extract upper first premolars + flat anterior bite plane

 

In this video I'll walk you through a typical class 2 (2) case with a deep bite so you can see the mechanics I use to correct the overbite. I'll show you two plans as this case is borderline in terms of the need for extractions, so you'll see how I'd change things if it became clear that extractions would be needed. Diagnosis / Problems List

  •  Skeletal C2, reduced vertical + FMPA
  • Incisor C2(2)
  • Mild crowding
  • Increased overbite
  • Centerline discrepancy (1mm)
  • Buccal segments ½ C2
  • Retroclined incisors
  • Increased COS

 

Mechanics + Appliances

  • Upper and lower fixed appliances
  • Class 2 incisor mechanics
  • Deep overbite mechanics
  • Class 2 canine + molar mechanics

 

Treatment Plan Summary - Plan 1

  • Flat anterior bite plane (FABP)
  • Upper and lower fixed appliance
  • Re-assess for lower interproximal reduction (IPR) / extraction (XLA) - very unlikely
  • Retain
